The Pronoun game is excruciating fun with a carload of children - great for long journeys. It's much more challenging than you would think and is the best way I know to teach children what a pronoun is, why they are so useful, and how to use them properly.
Pronouns are the small words we use instead of proper nouns eg it, him, her, I, me, you, we, they and corresponding possessive pronouns its, his, hers, my, your, our, their. There are others but this is enough to be going on with.
The challenge of the Pronoun game is not to use any pronouns for the whole journey. As well as avoiding using pronouns in everything you say, you will all be listening for each other to slip up - and slip up you will.
So, take some light conversation:
Ann: Did you do that?
Bob: No, I didn't, he did.
Charlie: It wasn't me, it was him.
becomes
Ann: Did Bob make that mark?
Bob: No, Bob didn't, Charlie did.
Charlie: It wasn't Charlie, it was Bob
Simple? Try it and see...
